2001 Honda Magna V-4

(more pics located here!!)

One of the fastest cruisers on the road.

The very fastest cruiser on a twisty road...

For sale: 2001 Honda 750 V-4 Magna. This bike has been well cared for since purchased from the original owner in July 2002 at 2,000 miles. I've ridden it through 16 states, sometimes riding over 12 hours a day in comfort; commuted to work and school; and spent many weekends riding Western PA's twisties and scenic roads. It has ALWAYS been stored in a dry, heated garage and had the best of care (Frequent Mobil-1 synthetic oil/filter and premium NGK spark plug changes in addition to every other maintenance item per the Honda manual).

The condition is exceptional - no scratches, dings, or any other blemishes - t
he bike has never been wrecked, stolen, or otherwise abused. I've spent many hours detailing it from time to time and feel that the looks truly reflect that effort. I take it to several shows per year and it constantly generates great comments - not to mention the positive comments received from everyday casual observers...

One could spend a lot more time and money overall to build a comparable machine with the looks and performance, safety and comfort modifications (over $2000 worth), here is one that is proven and ready to roll... Any of the few weak points of a stock Magna are more than adequately addressed, and everything works 100%. Blows people's minds sitting still, and even better when moving...

Comfort:

As stated, this bike has seen some touring duty, usually several 12-hour trips to the Smoky Mountain region a year in addition to similar trips. Although a completely stock Magna isn't the very best for touring, with the included Corbin seat, highway bars, ISO pegs and grips and many other mods, it makes a great touring set-up that performs flawlessly with plenty of comfort and power.

...and absolutely no reliability worries. It's a Honda, enough said.

Performance(!!!):

If you're looking for the typical "cookie-cutter" V-twin cruiser, click elsewhere. The Magna's V-4 engine, derived from the legendary Honda Interceptor/VFR, spins up past 10,000 RPMs. The engine is a 90 degree liquid-cooled V-4, 16-valve dual-overhead cam configuration with 4 constant velocity carburetors. Power output at the rear wheel is roughly 80+ HP, delivered in a very smooth, balanced manner, from a proven engine that lasts well past 100K miles given basic care. Again, it's a Honda.

ZERO vibration... (remarkably better than a V-twin in that regard)

VERY fast for a cruiser. In the quarter mile, a bone-stock Magna is equal to the Honda VTX1800 and the Kaw Vulcan 2000 ( mid to low 12's at 105+mph). Significantly quicker than nearly every V-twin cruiser (even those with twice the displacement). Throw some curvy roads into the equation and the Magna just walks away... And since most insurance companies base rates on engine displacement, this is a double bonus: better performance AND lower rates.

Yet, especially when kept under 6K RPM, the V-4 is remarkably compliant for commuting, touring, etc. - thanks to the V-4 engine, power delivery from 0-10,000 RPM is smooth, linear, and not "peaky" at all. It only goes as fast as one wishes, with no abruptness in the torque/HP curve - one can cruise sedately or fly through the twisties, and anything in between.

Handling:
One of the Magna's best features is the remarkable handling. While not a sportbike, it is consistently rated as a top-handling cruiser by a large margin. Compared to the typical cruiser, the excellent lean angle, frame layout, and relatively light weight (500 lbs. vs. 650+ for most cruisers), make it a surprisingly stable yet flickable and potent machine on a twisty road. The handling often surprises (and sometimes even surpasses) many sportbike riders... Truly one of the greats in the twisties. Of note, the suspension on this bike has been modified by two very common methods to get even better handling: Progressive front fork springs and rear Honda VTX shocks. Taking "great handling" to "excellent handling" - especially for a cruiser.

Since being introduced in 1982, the handling and performance of the V-4 Magna have left it head and shoulders above nearly any other "regular" cruiser produced. The latest generation (1994-2003) is especially adept in the handling department.

Also, the latest generation of Magna (1994-2003) was the longest Magna run ever - 10 years. Parts are completely interchangable for all these years as no changes were made other than paint schemes - meaning parts are cheap and plentiful!

Care:
Stored in a dry, heated garage since brand new. Completely detailed at least twice per year.
Usually ridden at LEAST once a month in winter, often more frequently. Fortunately, this machine has never been truly "stored" (ignored), and does not suffer from the gummed carbs, weakened battery, dried engine seals & gaskets, etc. that are frequently encountered with bikes not ridden regularly.

The condition is excellent, what you see in the pictures is what you get. There are some very small chips in the front of the gas tank, and the usual tiny scratches/swirl marks found on a bike that is not perfectly show-room new. I do my best to keep it looking as good as possible, and I believe that shows - it draws quite a few compliments wherever it goes.

Oil always changed at recommended intervals with Mobil-1 synthetic oil. New chain, front sprocket, brake pads, brake fluid, fork oil, spark plugs; newer front tire (Metzler ME880) tire from July 2005 is about 60%, the rear tire is brand new (Metzler ME880 in 170/80, the biggest rear tire to fit the Magna). I firmly believe a motorcycle should be a pleasure to ride at a moment's notice, especially when far from home, and this machine is ALWAYS maintained with that in mind. This is no bar-hopping bike, it's been able to stretch its legs...

In fact, I am selling to purchase a sport-touring bike, and honestly reallywant to keep the Magna as well. It is the only cruiser that fits my needs of comfort, agility, and great acceleration. Unfortunately I can't justify keeping 2 extremely capable machines, I will be extremely sad to see her go...
